A UBC campaign reached its fundraising goal so quickly, the target has now been doubled.
The Blue and Gold campaign, which helps students with fellowships, scholarships and bursaries, will now seek to raise $200 million, UBC President Santa Ono said during student orientation events at the Okanagan campus on Tuesday.
More than 6,500 students at the Kelowna and Vancnouver campuses received support last year alone — thanks, in part, Ono said, to the 15,820 donors who have contributed.
“Ultimately, we want to ensure that more students get access to the best possible education without overwhelming financial concerns,” Ono said.
The campaign began in November 2017. At that time, a three-year goal to raise $100 million was set.
