In the early 1950s on Highway 97 North was an old "S" curved wooden bridge over the railway line coming into Kelowna. It had been pointed out several years before that it was a dangerous bridge, particularly if it had been raining or snowing and you had to slow down to 30 miles per hour. The then B.C. Government had stated around 1954 that a new bridge would not be built for several more years.
