Another Tolko mill is shutting down, but this time it’s not because the forest economy is tanking.
The Vernon company’s mill in Slave Lake, Alta., is closing temporarily because the town is under an eight-hour evacuation alert.
“All employees, other than those who have been identified as essential to asset protection, have been evacuated and sent home. With the town on an eight-hour evacuation notice, we want people to be prepared in case a mandatory evacuation order is issued,” said Jim Baskerville, vice-president of strand-based business, in a news release.
A wildfire is burning 30 kilometres from the town.
