Byelection date set

Westside-Kelowna voters will go back to the polls on July 10.
Premier Christy Clark announced Wednesday that would be the date for a byelection in which she will try gain a seat into the B.C. legislature.
Clark lost her own seat of Vancouver-Point Grey in the May 14 provincial election, even though she led her Liberal party to a convincing, upset victory.
Ben Stewart was re-elected in Westside-Kelowna, but officially stepped down on Tuesday so Clark could run.
Carole Gordon, who finished second to Stewart in May, will run again for the NDP. Sean Upshaw, who ran in Penticton, will represent the BC Conservatives.

Gordon to run for NDP

BC NDP Leader Adrian Dix announced this morning that public school teacher Carole Gordon will take on Premier Christy Clark in the Westside-Kelowna byelection.
“Carole Gordon and the BC NDP will make sure voters here in Kelowna and West Kelowna can choose a strong local voice to represent them,” said Dix in Kelowna. “Carole will hold Premier Clark to account on her promises and record, like balancing the budget, reducing debt and increasing jobs, and the threats of massive hydro rate increases and cuts to vital services like hospitals and schools.”
Gordon has lived in Kelowna and West Kelowna for more than 40 years. A teacher for more than two decades, she studied at Okanagan University College, and is active in community organizations including the Central Okanagan United Way.
Gordon ran as the BC NDP candidate in Westside-Kelowna during the recent provincial election. She picked up 30 per cent of the vote to Ben Stewart's 58. Stewart is stepping down so Clark can run.
“Now more than ever, Westside-Kelowna residents need a representative in the legislature who will stand up for our interests in the Legislature,” said Gordon.
