Westsiders can find out details about the next big Highway 97 construction project at an open house on Tuesday.
Work is about to start on a highway underpass, just up Bridge Hill, to accommodate an extension of Sneena Road.
The project, which will continue until November, also includes an extension of Sneena Road in the other direction, providing a link to Boucherie Road.
The open house will run from 4 to 7 p.m at Unit 170 in the Okanagan Lake shopping centre, corner of Highway 97 and Westside Road. Unit 170 is next to Sammy J's Grill.
When completed, Sneena Road will be parallel to the highway's south side, running behind the Okanagan Lake Shopping Centre. It will also provide vehicle access to an area where the Westbank First Nation plans to build a for-profit health care centre.
As the new underpass is being built, all five lanes of Highway 97 will be detoured around the construction site.
The provincial government is paying for the underpass and related road works as part of an agreement Victoria struck with the WFN in advance of construction of the W.R. Bennett Bridge, which opened in 2008.
