A 36 year old Kelowna woman faces possible impaired driving charges after she provided breath samples in excess of two and a half times the legal limit yesterday afternoon.
Shortly after 2 pm Wednesday, RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver on Lakeshore Road near Bluebird Road. The report indicated that a blue Volvo had just hit a parked vehicle and was headed towards downtown on Lakeshore Road. The vehicle was seen driving in the wrong lane, the driver's head bobbing in an apparent sleep-like state and the front passenger tire was flat from the collision. The tire quickly disintegrated, but the woman driving the car seemed oblivious to the damage as well as other vehicles, barely avoiding numerous collisions. As the woman turned onto Richter Street, she narrowly missed a police vehicle as well as another motorist before coming to a stop.
The woman attempted to drive away, but the officer was able to place the vehicle into park and turn off the ignition. Investigators noted gross symptoms of impairment and transported her to the detachment ,where she provided breath samples in excess of two and a half times the legal limit.
The woman's three year old child was in the car at the time and she was apparently on her way to pick up her six year old child at school. The three year old was not injured and both children were turned over to the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
The woman faces a number of potential charges including Impaired Driving and Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident. She was released on a Promise to Appear for Court at a later date.
