Three flights in and out of Kelowna Airport were scrubbed due to fog Monday night and Tuesday.
Poor visibility prevented an Air Alaska flight from landing in Kelowna at midnight Monday, forcing the pilot to fly back to Seattle. That meant no aircraft was here to fly passengers to Seattle Tuesday morning.
A WestJet flight bound for Alberta was scheduled to land in Kelowna about 7 a.m. Tuesday. Heavy fog forced the pilot to circle the runway at least once and continue flying east.
The Kelowna-bound passengers were put on the next flight, and outgoing passengers in Kelowna had to be re-booked, said airport spokesperson Janelle Hynes.
Pilots use an instrument landing system. Regulations dictate the cloud ceiling must be 251 feet above ground and the horizontal visibility must be a mile for them to approach for landing.
Flights taking off need more than a quarter mile of visibility.
