Two Kelowna pastors are in need of some Amazing Grace in their plea to be contestants on the Amazing Race.

Mike Penninga and Joel Feddersen want to be on Canada’s version of the popular adventure reality show, Amazing Race.

The duo have already submitted their video application on YouTube and are now waiting to find out if they’ll make it through to the second round of applicants.

“People have this impression of pastors being conservative, dry, boring, and not funny. We think we could show people a different side of pastors,” said Penninga.

“I got an email from someone at my church who said, ‘Thanks for being the kind of pastor who would try this kind of stuff,’” he said.

Penninga is a senior pastor at Kelowna Gospel Fellowship, while Feddersen is a youth pastor at Willow Park Church.

They’ve been friends for almost 20 years and think their team dynamic would be interesting for people to watch.

“I’m more organized and like planning things, while Joel is more free flowing and spontaneous,” said Penninga.

“I think our interaction with each other would be fun to watch. We wouldn’t fight, we would laugh,” he said.

Amazing Race Canada will take teams of two on a journey across the nation, all while taking part in different endurance challenges. It’s set to air this summer on CTV.

“I’m bad with heights and eating, and animals, so Mike would have to do that stuff,” joked Feddersen.

Both men are fathers, Penninga has three kids and Feddersen has two. They said that being on the road for four weeks during the filming of the show would be a big commitment, but that they’re ready for the challenge.

“I think it would be a great adventure and it would be awesome meeting other people,” said Feddersen.

Penninga celebrates his 40th birthday this year and said that being chosen would be the icing on the cake.

“I would love to see the country and would love the experience. You probably get to do wild and crazy things, build incredible memories and meet great people,” he said.

Applications are due on Thursday and filming for the show begins sometime in April. For now, both Penninga and Feddersen are hoping to get the attention of producers from the show and want people to like, comment and share their YouTube video.
