Two men were found safely after getting stuck in the snow and spending a cold night up Gellard Forest Service Road.
Early Wednesday, Kelowna RCMP received a report of two missing men who went 4x4ing Tuesday night and got their vehicle stuck in the snow on the KVR.
The two males, aged 21 and 24, both Kelowna residents, called a family member when they realized they were lost after trying to walk back toward town.
The family member went looking for them and, when the cellphone went dead, called police.
Central Okanagan Search and Rescue was called out, and the RCMP helicopter went up at first daylight.
Both males were located by the helicopter crew and they appeared to be suffering from frostbite and hypothermia.  Neither of the males were dressed for the weather, and it’s not known whether they had water and food with them.
The helicopter was able to land and picked up both males.  They were then taken to Kelowna General Hospital for medical assessment.
Police said it’s important to note the story could have ended very poorly for the men. They are lucky that they were spotted after having left their vehicle.  One of the rules of any outdoor adventure is to be prepared with proper clothing and supplies and to stay where someone can find you.
