Mike Nuyens will be the NDP candidate in Kelowna-Lake Country for the May 14 provincial election.
The Lake Country resident won the nomination Tuesday night in front of about 100 NDP members and visitors.
Nuyens describes himself as a longtime resident of Lake Country, former hockey coach, volunteer firefighter, small-business owner and now member-representative for the BCGEU.
He beat Tom Macauley for the nomination.
Nuyens will run against incumbent Liberal MLA Norm Letnick and B.C. Conservative candidate Graeme James.
The NDP candidate thanked his supporters on Facebook.
"Thanks to all my friends, neighbours, family, for your incredible support. And to Tom Macauley, my fellow nomination candidate, on a good campaign," he wrote.
