Pedestrian struck by truck

Police say a 26-year-old Vancouver man appears to have thrown himself in front of a semi-trailer truck Thursday night in Kelowna.
The man, who was catapulted more than five metres when he was hit by the big truck, is at Kelowna General Hospital with serious injuries.
It was dark at 6:20 p.m. when the semi accelerated after stopping at the traffic lights at Highway 97 North and McCurdy Road.
The 54-year-old driver from Chilliwack was heading south toward McCurdy when the truck struck the pedestrian in the outside lane. Witnesses estimated the truck was travelling about 30 km/h and said the man appeared to jump in front of it.
The man remains in critical condition.
The truck driver was not injured but is distraught.
