UBCO has opened a lecture theatre to simulcast Chris Hadfield's talk on Monday.
Tickets to see Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield as part of UBC Okanagan's Distinguished Speaker Series sold out in a few hours when his visit was first announced.
But now, in response to the overwhelming demand for his Monday evening talk at the university, UBCO has opened a lecture theatre to simulcast the live event.
As of Friday afternoon, about 150 seats remained for the simulcast event, which takes place at 7 p.m. Monday in the Charles Fipke Centre for Innovative Research, 3247 University Way.
Hadfield was an Internet sensation with his daily YouTube videos, tweets and high-resolution photography of Earth from the International Space Station during his recent stint in space.
The video of his performance in orbit of David Bowie's classic rock song Space Oddity went viral, turning him into an instant celebrity. As such, he's been in constant demand for speaking engagements ever since.
Check-in for his talk and the simulcast starts at 6 p.m., and ticket registration is free online at: dss-hadfieldsimulcast.eventbrite.ca.
Paid parking is available for $3 in campus parking lots E, F and G. The ticket dispensers accept coins, Visa and MasterCard.
