A woman was killed by a tractor trailer near a busy intersection in Vernon on Sunday.
The woman was apparently crossing Highway 97 on foot at 11:10 a.m. and got caught under the empty flatbed trailer of the 18-wheeler as it drove down Hospital Hill. Police covered the undercarriage with sheets and tarps until her body was removed.
The semi was heading north and struck the woman near 25th Avenue (Highway 6) at the bottom of the hill. The driver was co-operating with investigators. Police don't believe speed or alcohol were factors.
Traffic was rerouted around the site via Commanage Road on Mission Hill. A traffic analyst took measurements and a coroner was investigating.
