Compassion over coercion

Print PDF

In her recent letter, Valerie Garding asks "How will we avoid the right to die becoming a duty to die?"
I would suggest the current situation is more akin to imposing a duty to live on those who only wish assistance to die when they feel life has become unbearable and are unable to hasten their own demise.
Compassion demands that we find safeguards against coercion in this matter, and I believe we have the intelligence to do just that.
