I am extremely saddened and disappointed to hear that Ballet Kelowna is closing down.
We have recently moved here from a larger city and were mourning the loss of big city arts productions. We subscribed to Ballet Kelowna to support our new community.
I was surprised to see the small yet talented group perform. My expectations were blown out of the water, we were all very impressed and I left feeling like "wow," there is excitement and talent here.
Then I turned to see all the empty seats.
I hear how the community of Kelowna is feeling financial tightness, yet I sure see many big houses and fancy vehicles driving about.
Tsk Tsk, Kelowna people.
Where were you?
You want all the big city amenities, yet don't want to pay for or support them.
A seat at the ballet costs less than sending your kids to the movies. Still sipping your $5 latte? Shame on you.
Culture in a community does not just happen, it needs to be supported.
T. Ellis,
Kelowna
