I am writing as one of the many Kelowna Rockets fans who cannot believe the ridiculous parking restrictions on streets around Prospera Place.
Virtually every side street in the residential and commercial areas has a maximum of two hours during the time games are held.
Exactly how are you supposed to attend a Rockets game or a concert in only two hours?
I work at the events at Prospera, and many times have been forced to park some distance away. The parkade is an option, but only if not full.
I am sure the city and downtown businesses want to attract people to the downtown area after games or other events.
It is very disheartening when you work a game or event for four or five hours and come out to see two hours or more of your wages go up in smoke to a parking cash grab ($30 tickets).
I have heard from colleagues that this happens a few times a month to staff working the games and events, and to hockey fans and concert goers.
Surely, after 6 p.m. it would make sense to allow parking until midnight in these areas.
Hopefully, other Rockets fans and concert-goers will write the city and comment on this issue.
