It didn't work in Kelowna, now Penticton's trying

I read the article Backyard Hens OK'd (Jan 9) and had to check my calendar to ensure it actually wasn't April first. It wasn't.
Please tell me this isn't serious. If people want farm fresh eggs, that's fine.
I would like farm fresh milk, but you don't see me lobbying to keep cows in my backyard. Thank the Lord they said roosters would not be permitted.
Are there no more pressing issues to discuss than this at Penticton city council? It must be a slow month at City Hall. Councillors Andrew Jakubeit, Helena Konanz and, once again, John Vassilaki voted against this, allowing their common sense to show through.
Jakubeit brought up the issue of a possible increase in predators, as well as what to do with the birds once their laying days are over. He hit the nail right on the head.
All in all, in my humble opinion, not a good idea. Next thing we know, I'll look out my living room window and see some guy herding his goats down the street.
