Re: "Topless in Kelowna." While I agree with columnist Lori Welbourne's position, I think there are a lot more important issues concerning women's rights and gender equality that we need to be focusing on other than her chosen topic.
It is an attention-grabber and maybe a newspaper seller, but not of huge relevance to oppressed women in our society and in the world.
Education, independence, freedom from oppression, poverty and safety, just to name a few, are issues that need much more exposure and attention.
As Welbourne stated, in some countries it is not a big deal, but women still suffer from major inequalities in these contries regardless of their opportunity to go topless.
If and when women achieve equal rights in more important social and economic areas, then I believe going topless will be an non-issue.
As a columnist and blogger, she possesses a great opportunity to advocate for women.
Use it prudently and wisely.
