Re: David Bruce's letter, School board needs to relax rules about dogs on grounds.
I am so tired of continually hearing and reading in the news how hard done by these whining dog owners are. So now, here is a new twist to the ongoing dog saga of Kelowna.
This guy wants to have the school district allow everyone entry onto the school grounds so their dogs can run around and poop and pee all over the very grounds the children play on. I am sure most responsible parents would not want their children playing in a filthy, germy playground. It's laughable.
Bruce goes on to suggest that only responsible dog owners be allowed onto the grounds.
I wonder who would police each school 24 hours a day and determine who is and who is not a responsible dog owner. Further, who would pay the costs incurred by such a ridiculous venture?
There are plenty of dog parks in the city now that are paid for by taxpayers, the majority of whom are not dog owners. Also, there are many square miles of open country to walk your dog in.
If the dog owners who want more space are not satisfied with what the city is providing and want larger areas for their dogs to run free, may I suggest they all get together and buy a few acres, fence it, service it, maintain it and, of course, pay their own taxes on it.
You chose to have a dog.
The general public is sick and tired of having so-called responsible dog owners turn a blind eye every time their dog decides to leave a big steaming lump on private or public property for someone else to clean up. I have seen it too many times.
I am happy the trustees were responsible and did the right thing. Every school ground is posted with No Dogs Allowed signs. Not hard to understand. I think the fine should be double, and it should be enforced every day.
