The Water Street Seniors Centre was built some 30 years ago with parking provided for on the premises.
Most seniors drove their own vehicles and enjoyed easy access to participate in the activities at the centre.
Those who didn't drive due to financial and/or medical reasons generally had to rely on the Kelowna Regional Transit system and therefore were subjected to long waiting periods and exposed to the elements at the Queensway bus terminal, after which they had to walk a block from the closest bus stop.
The centre has now been relocated within the confines of Parkinson Recreation Centre. That is certainly great, as there are now vast amounts of available services there, as well.
At this time, the No. 9 shoppers bus stop is located at the furthest point outside the parking area of that complex.
After a peaceful demonstration in January by seniors and others in front of City Hall protesting the elimination of the bus route entirely, our city council saw fit to keep the route going, but on a limited schedule.
Little wonder ridership has gone down even further.
Now more than ever, I would suggest that city council reconsider my letter of Feb. 4 regarding rerouting and implementing half-hour service for the No. 9 bus.
