Re: the proposals to move the oil/tar/bitumen from Alberta via pipeline and tankers.
Sooner or later, a tanker will try to wiggle its way around the islands and then run aground, spilling oil everywhere.
Remember the Exxon Valdez? All those pious promises to quickly clean up the gooey mess? The captain was fined a miniscule $50,000.
Recently, tugs were towing a mammoth drilling rig during a storm when the cables broke. The rig was then at the sole mercy of wind and currents. Pipelines are not immune from spills either, and they can break, corrode or be sabotaged.
We are in a danger zone from earthquakes, the power of which could snap a pipeline instantly.
I am a professional engineer, and one thing I have learned is never to underestimate the power of nature. I also respect our beautiful B.C. scenery. To threaten it is utter madness.
