The president of UBC will talk about his own battles with depression and bipolar disorder and the latest research in a presentation Jan. 30 in Kelowna.

Santa Ono’s speech, This is What Hope Looks Like, is a fundraiser for Third Space Life Charity’s UBC Okanagan student care program.

“Third Space has provided close to 2,000 free counselling sessions to UBC Okanagan students over the past two years,” said executive director Jody Pihl in a news release. “Student demand for counselling support is vast, and our team has a solid plan to build capacity through expanded services in 2020 to meet this critical need.”

Third Space has a dedicated counselling space in the student union building, and the team offers counselling services six days a week.

The Stober Family Foundation will match donations made at the event.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the lecture begins at 6 p.m. at Willowstone Academy, 4091 Lakeshore Rd. Tickets cost $65 and are available at thisiswhathopelookslike.eventbrite.ca.
