Phil Wickham
Folk, pop and with a hint of rock and roll in his soul, Phil Wickham lives to perform and share his love of God through his music. The contemporary Christian artist from San Diego, Calif. was born to parents who formed one of the first religious rock groups, Parable, and has developed a unique brand of worship music connecting with audiences the world over.
"I love writing songs and I love going out and playing concerts, but the real joy is that people are using these songs to go out and love God," said Wickham after releasing his latest album, Response, to critical acclaim.
The 28-year-old could easily be filed under both the Britpop and Christian contemporary genres, and seems to have an innate sense of the driving beats, sweeping melodies and heartfelt power ballads that will bring audiences to their feet to share in his experience.
Raised in a home with as many guitars as there are months in the calendar, he's thus developed a song catalogue the envy of artists twice his age in the decade since he first started to tour.
From Radiohead to Coldplay, Jeff Buckley to Rufus Wainwright he says his influences are varied, but credits his parents with providing the foundation necessary to look at Christian artists like Martin Smith of Delirious? and say, I can do that.
He has recorded at the same Abbey Road Studio Pink Floyd and The Beatles used, accompanied by the same London Symphony Orchestra musicians who played on the Lord of the Rings soundtrack.
Wickham will lead a live workship on Thursday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17 for this all ages show, available through KeyNote Tickets.
