Kelowna Mayor Walter Gray is pleased with the arrest of three gang members in the murder of notorious gangster Jonathan Bacon in Kelowna in 2011, but he argues this city was simply the backdrop for a B.C. crime.
"I think it's noteworthy that the press conference was being held in Vancouver, which underlines the fact that this is a British Columbia story, not a Kelowna story. And it is also important that none of the arrested in this case are from Kelowna," Gray told reporters both before and then again after city council's regular Monday meeting.
"We were the venue for the event but it's not a Kelowna story. This was about crime in British Columbia and it is not - nor should it be - a negative mark on the city of Kelowna. This was a British Columbia murder, folks, not a Kelowna murder."
