Best in Snow: Snow sculptures to compete in Quebec

Print PDF
A team of Penticton snow carvers, who confidently called themselves Best in Snow, won the annual snow carving competition at Silver Star Mountain over the weekend. Lead carver Aaron Grant, right, who recently moved to Nanaimo, teamed with Kirk Safford, left, and Janelle Parchomchuck to create First Signs of Spring from a giant block of packed snow in
48 hours. The team beat five others and will represent B.C. at next year's Quebec Winter Carnival. The sculpture depicts a caveman coming upon the first flower in spring. "It represents the human spirit," said Parchomchuck, "recognizing that the man has survived another harsh winter."
