Blinking billboard idea banished in WK

Print PDF
Councillors sent Hockeyville back to the drawing board when it comes to the blinking billboard.
Council asked that consideration of a $125,000 electronic sign - partially funded through last year's Hockeyville prize money of $25,000 - be deleted from the budget and the Hockeyville committee be asked to reconsider how the money should be spent.
West Kelowna's bid committee co-chairman Adam Less had asked at an earlier meeting that council earmark consolation prize money for an electronic sign that could pass along community messages while also acting as a beacon to those looking for Royal LePage Place and the Mount Boucherie rec complex.
The idea received lukewarm reception from some corners of the community given the contentious role billboards play on the Westside. Many believe the money is to improve local hockey facilities.
