Not sure about participating in a full-distance, outdoor triathlon?
Well, the Penticton recreation department is planning a winter event that will let you test the waters without freezing - an indoor triathlon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 10 at the South Okanagan Events Centre and community centre pool.
The event will give people a chance to put their winter training to the test with a friendly competition in a fun and safe atmosphere.
Participants will compete based on time, not distance, within an allotted time frame.
The event consists of the following: swim (15 minutes), transition (15 minutes), bike (30 minutes) and run (20 minutes). There is no transition allotted between the bike and running portions.
Bikes will be set up on a covered ice surface, while the run will take place throughout the SOEC and will involve stairs.
Spectators are welcome.
Registration, $52, includes a drink ticket and buffet at the vault following the event, as well as age-category awards and draw prizes.
Categories are: junior, ages 12-17; open, ages 18-39; and masters, 40 and older.
Forms are available at the Bike Barn, Peach City Runners and the Penticton Community Centre.
Drop off completed registration forms with payment at 325 Power St. Alternatively, enter course
No. 32758 and register online at www.penticton.ca/recreation.
