West Kelowna RCMP are expressing gratitude to several citizens who helped police collar a suspected drunk driver on Sunday.
At 2:24 p.m., West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle accident in which the vehicle had rolled over and the male driver was running from the scene.
"The crash happened as the early 1990s Toyota pickup truck was proceeding north along Byland Road near Home Hardware and went off road left, flipped onto its roof and then slid along the paved driveway into fencing," said Const. J. A. (John) Brown.
"Witnesses to the crash followed the male when he fled the scene, and ran into a wooded area and creek behind businesses on Compass Court."
The man was located by police when he came out of the wooded area onto Compass Court.
West Kelowna RCMP and South East District's integrated road safety unit are investigating the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle - a 36-year-old Kelowna resident - for impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident, said Brown. "The driver sustained minor cuts and was treated by medical staff."
