You'll now be paying more to recycle and get rid of your waste.
Starting on April 8, the Regional District of North Okanagan's new bylaw, the Municipal Solid Waste Management bylaw, will set fees for the recycling and disposal of municipal solid waste at RDNO Recycling and Disposal Facilities.
Here are some of the changes you can expect:
An increase in the regular refuse disposal fee from $88/tonne to 90.50/tonne (minimum charge for refuse remains at $3)
Construction and demolition waste will increase by $20/tonne to $180/tonne
Disposal of regulated materials (recyclable material such as asphalt roofing, yard and garden waste, glass, scrap metal, wood and Blue Bag recyclables) increases by $20/tonne to $180/tonne
Disposal fee for asphalt roofing - major contamination will increase by $20/tonne to $180/tonne
Mattresses and box springs will increase by $1/unit to $7/unit.
