Police have identified a 46-year-old Oliver woman who was killed when she ran into the path of an oncoming vehicle along Highway 97 in the Gallagher Lake area.
Witnesses to the collision told RCMP they saw the woman run across the road from the west side of the highway into the path of an oncoming northbound black 2004 Chevrolet Impala.
The incident happened Tuesday at about
6:45 p.m. and forced the closure of the highway for a brief time period.
The name of the deceased is Debra Street.
Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said although witnesses, including a physician, immediately came to Street's aid, she died at the scene as a result of injuries she sustained in the collision.
The 69-year-old male driver of the car was from Okanagan Falls. Police say he stopped, called 911 and remained at the scene where he co-operated with the investigation.
The roadway is a two-lane, undivided roadway with no lighting. Conditions were dark and clear and the temperature was about zero degrees at the time.
In addition to an investigation of the accident scene and a vehicle examination, police are trying to establish the Street's activities that day leading into the evening to the time of the collision.
Alcohol or drugs have been ruled out as factor in the case of the driver and no charges have been laid at this time against him. It is unknown what speed the vehicle was travelling when the crash occurred.
