A firefighter with West Kelowna Fire and Rescue hoses down a tree after a small fire burned bush and grass in a wooded area off Gellatly Road on Tuesday evening.
The area was the scene of a small grass and bush fire Tuesday evening that was extinguished by members of West Kelowna Fire and Rescue.
"There's some squatters who've been constantly hanging out in that area," assistant fire chief Kerry Klonteig said Wednesday. "We've had to respond to other fires before in there."
Tuesday's fire grew to about half an acre in size before being contained by 10 firefighters. It was located on band land between the Johnson-Bentley swimming pool's parking lot and Gellatly Road.
"It's pretty secluded, undeveloped land with a lot of trees," Klonteig said.
No homes or other structures were threatened by the fire, which took about 2 1/2 hours for firefighters to extinguish.
