Top cop admits to breach of trust

The former commander of the Merritt RCMP detachment has entered a guilty plea for breach of trust in connection with the alleged theft of drugs from a police evidence locker.
The plea for former staff sergeant Stuart Seib was entered Tuesday by an agent for defence lawyer Neville McDougall. A pre-sentence report was ordered, and his next provincial court appearance in Kelowna was set for April 9.
Seib was also charged with theft - $5,000 and under. No action was taken on that second charge Tuesday, but additional charges are usually stayed by Crown counsel after a guilty plea or verdict and at the conclusion of the criminal case.
Seib was suspended as head of the Merritt detachment in January 2012 when he was charged. At the time, investigators said cocaine had been taken from a police evidence locker.
Seib, an 18-year veteran of the force, was transferred to Merritt in November 2011 after being stationed in Clearwater for seven years. He resigned from the RCMP last year and won't face internal discipline.
