RCMP found a wet, cold truck driver walking through Winfield after his truck slid into Wood Lake early Wednesday.
The 35-year-old Lake Country man lost control of his flatbed truck on Highway 97 and crashed the front end into the frigid water about 4:45 a.m. He got out unhurt and was walking back into Winfield when an officer spotted him near the Lake Country Inn.
"He was wet and cold," said RCMP spokesman Const. Kris Clark. "He was checked over by paramedics. They were concerned about the potential for hypothermia."
The driver was heading north and had just entered the deadly nine-kilometre section of highway to Oyama. The Ford truck slid on slush just north of Oceola Road and veered right into the lake.
Water poured into the cab, but not up to the ceiling. When motorists pulled over, the truck lights were on and no one was inside. Commuter traffic was stopped as a tow truck hauled out the vehicle.
