Evan Anderson helped the Salmon Arm Silverbacks end a lengthy losing streak against his former team.
Anderson scored at 1:36 of the second overtime as the Silverbacks edged the Penticton Vees 3-2 in BCHL action on Saturday at the Shaw Centre, ending a run of 11 straight losses against Penticton dating back to the 2010-11 season.
Brayden Sherbinin tied the game for the Silverbacks on a power play with 8:34 to play, while Brandon Mistal had the other goal. Steven Iacobellis - another ex-Vee - had two assists as Salmon Arm improved to 11-13-1-3.
Ryan Gropp and Brad McClure scored for the Vees (18-7-0-3). Sam Mellor assisted on both goals.
The Vees led 2-1 after one period and it stayed that way until Sherbinin tied it.
Dustin Nikkel made 34 saves to get the win, while Chad Katunar was sensational in goal for the Vees with 38 saves.
The Vees had won the first four meetings between the two teams this season, including 3-0 on Wednesday in Penticton.
The Vees boosted their lead over the idle Merritt Centennials to nine points atop the Interior Division.
At Wesbild Centre in Vernon, Logan Mick scored the winner with 3:55 to go in the second period as the Vernon Vipers beat the visiting West Kelowna Warriors 3-2 to salvage a split of the home-and-home weekend series.
Braeden Russell and Liam Board also scored for Vernon (10-11-0-6).
Seb Lloyd had both goals for the Warriors (11-8-1-6), who outshot Vernon 41-26.
On Friday, Lloyd produced a hat trick in the first period and added an assist as the Warriors routed Vernon 7-1.
Adam Plant, David Pope, Ambrose Firkus and Shawn Hochhausen also clicked as the Warriors led 4-1 and 7-1 at the period breaks.
Adam Tambellini scored for Vernon, which was outshot 43-34.
Friday's game was the annual Warriors Beat Cancer night. While the official count won't be determined for a few days, they raised around $8,000, with more money coming in. All funds raised will go to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Vernon and West Kelowna will play a third straight game next Friday, 7 p.m. at Royal LePage Place.
