The familiar Paradise run at Big White proved to be the host skiers' liking during the Nancy Greene Ski League giant slalom races on Sunday.
Six of eight events were won by Big White Racers - under difficult snow conditions - including first-place finishes by Amy Jorgenson and Isaac Athans in their respective under-12 races.
Jorgenson led a field of 18 athletes in the girls U-12 GS event with a best time (two runs) of 27.91 seconds. That was nearly three seconds ahead of silver medalist Cara Shaw (30.43) of Big White. Teammate Jaxon Slaney claimed the bronze medal with a clocking of 30.84 while Ainsley Kaesmodel and Caitlin Callahan rounded out the top-five finishers for the host team.
Athans' best time of 27.80 seconds earned him the
U-12 boys gold medal. Teammate Noa Borg took the silver with a time of 28.10, while Zander Torres of Big White was third in 28.32.
The under-8 boys event saw Finley Cashin of Big White led a field of 18 racers with a best time of 34.30 seconds. BWR teammate Rickus De Villiers earned the silver by finishing in 38.06 on his first run. Oscar Weber was the bronze medalist with a clocking of 38.24 on his second pass.
Big White Racers continued their run of gold medalists in the girls under-8 race, as Charlotte Wargniez came through with a sizzling time of 35.12 to top the field of 23 racers. She was the only BWR athlete on the podium, but teammate Asia Borg was fifth overall.
The girls U-6 race was won by Big White's Chloe Yanow, with teammate Samantha Hveding taking second. Sara Goodall, of Crystal Mountain won the bronze and Sloane Betker of the host club was fourth.
Joseph Diemand of Big White raced to first place in the boys under-6 race with a time of 42.45. Brando Van Schlam of the BWR claimed the silver in 48.06 and teammate Alexandre Wargniez was the bronze medalist. Fourth place went to Chase Witzel of Big White.
Apex (Penticton) skiers halted the Big White sweep of the races by winning the boys and girls under-10 events. Heming Sola of Apex was the frontrunner in the field of 22 male skiers with a best time of 29.02. Big White's Adam Fricska was second in 30.49 while BWR's Joey Howorko took the bronze.
The girls under-10 event was won by Noa Rogers of Apex in 30.16. She was followed closely by silver medalist Ana Large (30.96) of Big White, while Rachel McInnes of the host club was third.
In all, 72 skiers took part in the races, and all of them taking home participation medals.
