CURLING: Kelowna native still contending for provincial title

Print PDF
Kelowna's Jeff Richard is one win away from representing B.C. at the Brier.
Richard, who plays third for Brent Pierce's New Westminster team, advanced to today's provincial final after prevailing in the 1-2 Page Playoff on Saturday afternoon. Pierce and Co. qualified from the B-event, then beat A-event winner Sean Geall, also of New West, 8-4 to secure a spot in the championship.
Geall, who scored four straight victories to start the triple-knockout tournament and earned a bye through Friday's action, wasn't on his A-game Saturday. Against Pierce, he gave up four points in the fifth end and two more in the ninth, and that loss sent Geall into Saturday evening's semifinal against Andrew Bilesky, also of New West.
Bilesky, who previously lost 9-4 to Geall and 7-6 to Pierce in round-robin play, scored four points in the second end en route to a 7-4 victory over Geall. Bilesky will now get another shot at Pierce in today's final, set for 5 p.m. in Parksville.
