The host Big White Racers dominated the podium at the B.C. ski-cross championships on the weekend.
Forty-seven strong, the Kelowna Ski Club contingent swept the medals in four age categories, while winning five gold in the two-day event, the first of its kind at Big White Ski Resort under the B.C. Alpine umbrella.
Ana Large (under-10 boys/girls), Cara Shaw (U-12 girls), Isaac Athans (U-12 boys), Quinn Rasmussen (U-14 boys), and Barclay Desjardins (U16-18 boys) of Big White all raced to gold in the final races on Sunday.
Silver medal winners from the host club included Adam Fricksa, Jaxon Slaney, Luke McMillan, Brooke Lukinuk and Kolby Deschner.
Emmett Sutton, Kaitlin Callahan, Devin Blaser-Ladouceur, Sophie Schroeder, Marcus Athans and Megan Kneller won bronze in their respective divisions.
In all, 65 racers from Seattle, Calgary, Edmonton, Terrace and the host club took part in the two-day event that included training and time trials on Saturday and more than 50 heats on Sunday.
Thanks to the many volunteers and the Telus Park events crew headed by Flynn Seddon, smiles were prevalent on the faces of the competitors, many of whom were taking part in their first ski-cross race.
"It was a weekend full of learning, trying new skills and exciting races," said Dianne DeJong, one of the volunteers. "Overall it was a really fun event we hope to hold on an annual basis."
