A businessman and writer who once ran for the federal Conservatives will represent the People’s Party of Canada in the fall federal election.
Salomon Rayek has been chosen by party members as the candidate for the riding of Kelowna-Lake Country.
Rayek started a business that made baby shoes in Richmond, and sold it in 2012 when he moved to Kelowna. He has an MBA and is general manager of Spencer’s Gifts, a retail store in Orchard Park mall.
Previously, Rayek was the editor of the Jewish Tribune’s western edition, and he was a freelance columnist for The Daily Courier.
In the 2008 federal election, Rayek ran for the Conservatives in the riding of Vancouver-Kingsway, finishing third behind the winning New Democratic candidate Don Davies (15,933 votes) and Liberal contender, Wendy Yuan (13,164). Rayek was third with 12,419 votes.
