A memorial tribute has been erected at the West Kelowna ferry dock, where police say a teen died early Saturday after jumping into Okanagan Lake.

A 15-year-old boy drowned when he jumped into Okanagan Lake and failed to resurface, police say.

The incident happened about 1 a.m. Saturday at the Gellatly Bay ferry wharf in West Kelowna.

After receiving a 911 call, emergency first responders located and pulled the boy out of the water.

"Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the 15-year-old boy could not be resuscitated and passed away in hospital," Kelowna RCMP Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey said in a release.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the boy's loved ones during this difficult time," O'Donaghey said.

A memorial tribute, with pictures, candles, flowers and personal messages has been erected on the wharf.
