A Lake Country motel that's long been the focus of concerns about its poor condition should be shut down, town council will hear Tuesday.
Municipal staff recommend council issue a "remedial action requirement" for the Airport Inn Lakeside on Highway 97.
Such an order would require the property to be vacated, boarded-up and fenced.
Town officials have been trying for years to improve conditions at the motel, a report to council states.
"The business and its ownership have not brought the property into compliance with relevant (town) bylaws and the BC Building Code, and RCMP capacity to the property remains significant," the report states.
The motel owner agreed last year to "cease operations in any way" as part of a consent order overseen by the BC Supreme Court, the report says, but some short- and long-term tenants continue to occupy rooms at the motel.
Those who stay at the motel are "put at risk with respect to health and safety" because of the buildings' poor condition, the report says.
