A man wanted following a police shooting on Saturday has been nabbed.
West Kelowna RCMP arrested Dayton McAlpine outside a residence on Douglas Road in Lakeview Heights late Tuesday morning.
On Saturday, police fired a shot at a man who was evading arrest in a Walmart parking lot.
The suspect was driving his Ford F-150 at a high rate of speed directly toward an officer when another RCMP member took action.
Police were called to the store after a member of the public recognized a man whose picture was published in a recent Crime Stoppers Most Wanted list.
Several officers, in both cruisers and unmarked vehicles, tried to box in the suspect’s truck so he could be arrested. But the suspect instead rammed two of the police vehicles, then drove toward the female officer.
After the suspect fled the area, police received many reports of a vehicle being driven in an erratic and dangerous manner toward Kelowna on Highway 97. The last confirmed sighting of the suspect vehicle was on Westside Road, which prompted a temporary closure of the road.
McAlpine, 32, is slated to appear in court on Tuesday.
“The arrest, which was conducted by uniformed members of the West Kelowna RCMP First Nations Policing section, went without incident,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the Kelowna regional detachment.
