Fire contained

A grass fire that was moving into trees near the Highway 97-Okanagan Connector interchange between Peachland and West Kelowna was quickly contained Saturday evening.

A grass fire that was spreading into trees was quickly knocked down Saturday evening.

The blaze was reported at 7:30 p.m. by many people near the Highway 97-Okanagan Connector interchange between Peachland and West Kelowna.

Fanned by strong winds, flames were moving uphill, West Kelowna fire Chief Jason Brolund said.

Firefighters from three West Kelowna halls, as well as members of the BC Wildfire Service, were able to quickly contain the blaze. No homes were threatened and no evacuations were required.

The fire did not extend beyond two-10ths of a hectare. It is considered suspicious, and investigators are trying to determine the cause.

“The public is thanked for their quick reporting of this fire to 911,” Brolund says.
