A decomposed sculpture in Lake Country is being recycled into another work of art.
“Ponderosa Sphere” has been on display near George Elliot Secondary School for the past year.
As was intended by its creator, Jacob Harder, the sphere’s outer skin — made from wood and bark — has decayed. It was designed to be “an investigation of the growth and decay of organic materials,” Lake Country’s public art commission said when the artwork was unveiled.
Harder has now wrapped the steel framework in the rubbery debris of blown-out tires found on Okanagan highways.
The refashioned artwork, now called “Tired Sphere,” will be unveiled at 1 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the high school.
