Two thieves used a passenger van stolen from downtown Kelowna to haul a 7.3-metre motorboat nicked from Summerland on Wednesday.
The men were spotted by police towing the boat across the William R. Bennett Bridge, headed to West Kelowna.
“The suspect driver of the stolen van refused to stop for police and continued down Westside Road after crossing the bridge,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
“The van was located, a short time later, stopped in the middle of Lindley Road, where officers took one male occupant into police custody without incident.”
Cops then cordoned off the area, and brought in an RCMP plane and a handler and police dog to track the second man, who took off running.
The handler and police dog negotiated the busy beach and took cues from an area resident to find the second suspect hidden under an inflatable boat.
The 33- and 39-year-old men face numerous criminal charges.
