A man was arrested and two knives seized after a group of youths were allegedly threatened on a basketball court in Lumby, Friday.

Police were called about 10 a.m. to deal with a report a man had produced a knife during an argument at Oval Park.

About 30 youths were on the courts at the time.

A 28-year-old man was arrested. Police later discovered he had two outstanding warrants for previous weapons charges.

He faces possible charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

“The RCMP is commending the youths for vacating the area immediately when the alleged knife was produced," said police spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett.
