Fourteen and counting.

That’s the number of suspicious fires Vernon police and fire crews have had to deal with since the beginning of May.

RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk said the latest two fires happened over the weekend, but police can not say if the series of fires are connected.

On Saturday at 11:50 p.m., police were called to a report of a fire in an abandoned house in the 3800 block of30th Avenue.

“The rear of the building was totally engulfed when the fire department arrived,” said Molendyk. “This fire is being looked at as another suspicious fire in the city.

“Early this (Monday) morning at about midnight, our officers received a report from the BX Fire department of a boat on fire in the 7000 block of Pleasant Valley Road. Officers on scene have determined this is a suspicious fire again.”

The 22-foot-long boat was totally engulfed when the fire department arrived and was destroyed.

“Similar to the last boat fire, there was also minor heat damage to another larger boat that was parked next to it,” said Molendyk, adding police have no suspects, but are continuing their investigation.
