A former Kelowna resident is holding a book launch for a book he wrote about a famous Vancouver robbery next month.

Don Levers, who lived in Kelowna between 1978 and 1991, wrote the 1985 children’s book Ogopogo the Misunderstood Lake Monster.

He recently finished writing a novel he began in 1987 called Loot for the Taking.

The book was inspired by the Vancouver Safety Deposit Vault robberies in 1977.

“Like many major robberies, this heist was done by professional thieves,” said Levers. “The premise of my story is what if it had been done by average ordinary guys who lived in Kelowna.”

Levers is hosting a book launch at Mosaic Books on Aug. 19.
