TORONTO - Four people have been sent to hospital with minor injuries after a three-alarm fire at a cardboard factory in west-end Toronto.

Firefighters say the blaze started around 10:30 a.m. Friday in a corrugation machine, and then spread into the ductwork at the Norampac paper-processing plant (on Evans Avenue in Etobicoke).

They say four workers who tried to put the fire out suffered smoke inhalation and were hospitalized as a precaution.

Damage is estimated at $500,000.

The Ontario Fire Marshal and the Ministry of Labour have been called in.
