PICKERING, Ont. - Durham Regional Police say a man in his early twenties has been killed in a hit-and-run in a rural area of Pickering, Ont. early Saturday morning.

Officers were called to the area of Concession 3 Road and Altona Road at about 12:30 a.m. by a person who was on scene, said acting Staff Sgt. Rob Williamson.

Police interviewed other drivers and witnesses in the area, and determined that the driver of the vehicle who struck the man did not remain at the scene, he said.

The man was found on the road and died at the scene, Williamson added.

The immediate area was closed for several hours for the police investigation, but has since been reopened.

Durham Regional Police say the investigation is ongoing.
