Pierson Stanley scored his first goal of the season as the UBC Okanagan Heat defeated the MacEwan Griffins 1-0 in Canada West soccer play Friday night at Nonis field.

Stanley’s goal came in the 34th minute with an assist to Corbin Beauchemin.

UBCO improves to 5-1-1 on the season and is unbeaten in their last five games. MacEwan drops to 1-3-1.

UBCO returns to the field tonight to face the Alberta Golden Bears (1-2-1) at 7:30 p.m.

UBCO outshot the Griffins 14-10 with Kelowna’s Nicholas Reitsma earning the shutout.

The Heat women’s team dropped a 2-0 decision to start the evening.

Kiera Fujimoto (11th minute) and Brenna Mattiello (17th) scored for Alberta (2-0-1).

UBCO will look for its first win of the Canada West season tonight against MacEwan. Game time is 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
